Baseball on a summer night. Hard to beat.
The season’s still young, but the Jazz is showing a lot of firepower with three players batting over 300. Defensive play is shaping up nicely as well.
That puts the Jazz in the lead of the Southern Division of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. The Richmond team is in its second year at McBride Stadium, following the tradition of the former Richmond Roosters and RiverRats.
This year’s roster includes a junior from Richmond’s Earlham College, a Wright State sophomore from New Paris, Ohio, and a Franklin College junior from Connersville, Ind. Of the remaining players, three hail from Indiana and four from Ohio. The rest are from all over – Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Florida and even California.
The Jazz season continues through August 1. Schedule details, ticket information and more are available at www.richmondjazzbaseball.com. Prices are $5 a game ($4 for seniors, $3 for kids 6-13). Games are played in the evenings or on Sunday afternoons.
