An exhibit of “The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier” will be on display at the Wayne County Veterans Memorial Park on Oct. 27, 28, & 29 with a special escort into town on the evening of October 26th by the Patriot Guards. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The project, called “A Call to Honor”, is a half scale model of the tomb that is in Arlington National Cemetery located in Arlington, Virginia. All of the art work of this replica was completed by Mr. Chuck Schmult, a well-known and extremely talented Rome, Georgia artist and was carved with a hand dremel and painted to resemble marble.
Having this replica exhibit on display at our Veteran’s Memorial Park is a great honor for the city of Richmond and Wayne County. This unique opportunity provides the public a chance to learn more about the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier and view the replica memorial for those who may not have the opportunity to travel to see the original full scale Tomb.
A wreath laying ceremony, similar to what takes place at the original Tomb, will occur Wednesday, October 27th at 6pm. Any organization interested in placing a wreath for their group or organization can contact Veterans Park Committee, Barb Goebel, 765-967-0330, siranvil1@gmail.com.
