A challenging and unique bike ride to tour the Richmond area’s 7 dams. Ride will start at Elstro Plaza like all of the Rose Pedals rides. First is viewing the Whitewater Gorge’s Weir Dam that is to be removed soon. We’ll walk our bikes above dam and across the river’s cable suspension bridge. We’ll head up the Cardinal Greenway via its Whitewater Gorge Connector to Thistlethwaite Falls’ diversion dam. We’ll ride to observe the Middlefork Dam as we will have permission to walk our bikes across it. Then we’ll roll downhill to see the Morton Lake Dam, and Elks Road Dam. Climbing to reach Glen Miller Park we’ll pass by the old mill pond ( Glen Miller Lake) and its dam and the small creek dam that fills Glen Miller Lake. Having seen all 7 dams our return to Elstro will be a downhill coast where Soapbox Derby Cars once raced on Richmond’s Grand Avenue.
This ride has 4 uphill climbs and is 15 miles long. It will take a mix of short grass and gravel paths, paved trails, city streets, and 2 segments on State Hwy (IN 227 and IN 121). Cars can be traveling up to 55 mph on these shared roads.
Remember the social hour begins at 9:30 AM at Elstro before ride with free cookies and coffee and tea. Ride is free, too!
