Whitewater Gorge Trail
Along this paved trail through the historic gorge area, hikers, cyclists and nature lovers will be able to explore the geological and historical significance of the Whitewater Gorge, as well as its natural rugged beauty. Fossils found along the trail are from animals that lived about 450 million years ago on the bottom of a warm shallow sea that covered this area. Free.

Highest Point in Indiana - Hoosier Hill
1257 feet above sea level. Latitude 40° 00', longitude 84° 51' W, Indiana's highest point is amidst a grove of trees. Located 15 miles north of Richmond. Exit 153 off I-70 on S.R. 227. Travel 10 miles north to Bethel. 1 mile west on Bethel Rd. and .09 miles north on Elliott Rd.
As Seen on Netflix, All The Bright Places. The first location Violet and Finch wander to is Hoosier Hill. Follow in Finch and Violet's footsteps as they stand atop the rock marker and look over the land around it.

With over 3 miles of trails traversing 130 acres, Cope Environmental Center has something for everyone. Hike through Indiana prairies and hardwood forest, explore wetlands and ponds. Discover birds, wildflowers, insects, and reptiles or enjoy a quiet sit on the benches scattered throughout the nature areas.
Cardinal Greenway
Get back to nature along Indiana's longest paved rails-trails which spans 62 miles from Richmond through Muncie to Marion, Indiana. The terrain is gentle, for hikers, joggers, cyclists, skaters, and outdoor enthusiasts. No Bike, No Problem . . . Fossil Park
The city of Richmond's name has come to mark a period of geological history dating back 440 million years ago. The "Richmondian" or the "Richmondian Age" describe a period in time where rock formations with names like "Whitewater," Liberty," "Waynesville" and "Arnheim" accumulated on the bottom of an ancient sea where east central Indiana and west central Ohio are now located.
Hayes Arboretum
The features found on this 466 acre property include 3% of Indiana's old growth forest, acres of reforested woods, several miles of hiking trails and running paths, Adena and Hopewell Indian mounds, ponds, fields, wetlands, and mountain biking trails. Together there are 16 miles of trails, 7.5 miles of which are Mountain Bike Trails. An auto tour takes you through a peaceful drive of the property. Pets welcome!
